In June 2022 I spent a long weekend on the greek island Corfu in the Ionian Sea. To be honest, we did not expect much from the island before, but ended up falling totally in love with the island! I will show you why:
Im Juni 2022 ging es für ein verlängertes Wochenende auf die griechische Insel Korfu im Ionischen Meer. Um ehrlich zu sein, haben wir vorher nicht wirklich viel von der Insel erwartet, wurden aber mehr als positiv überrascht! Bin ein richtiger Fan von diesem wunderschönen Ort geworden und ich zeuge euch mal warum:
I went there mid-June and the weather was already very hot, sunny every day and perfect for swimming and beach days. We were there for 3 nights, so we had 4 full days on the island. The best advice I can give you is to definitely rent a car to explore the whole island!
Wir waren Mitte Juni auf der Insel und zu dieser Zeit war es schon sehr heiß, jeden Tag sonnig und perfekt zum Baden. Insgesamt waren wir für 3 Nächte, also 4 Tage lang auf der Insel. Nehmt euch auf jeden Fall ein Mietauto für eure Zeit auf der Insel, damit ihr alles erkunden könnt!
Hotel
I am usually not a fan of big hotels or all-inclusive offers, but this is exactly what we chose here, as it was the best offer in terms of price/performance ratio. The hotel we stayed in (click here for more photos & information) is located in the north of the island, in the village Kassiopi. The hotel complex is really big, there are several pools and the rooms are divided among the small houses. Especially for families with children this hotel is the perfect choice because of the various animation offers. The food was good, but we only had breakfast here daily and dinner only one evening. There are also two other restaurants, besides the main restaurant, in which you have to book a table.
If you are looking for another hotel, I absolutely loved the area in the north around the town Acharavi.
Normalerweise bin ich absolut kein Fan von großen Hotelanlagen oder All-inclusive Angeboten, aber wir haben uns hier für genau das entschieden, da es vom Preis/Leistungsverhältnis das beste Angebot war. Das Hotel, in dem wir waren (klickt hier für mehr Infos & Bilder), liegt im Norden der Insel, im Ort Kassiopi. Die Anlage ist wirklich riesig, es gibt mehrere Pools und die Zimmer sind auf die verschiedenen kleinen Häuser aufgeteilt. Vor allem für Familien mit Kindern ist das Hotel perfekt, da es auch viele Animationsangebote und generell verschiedene Angebote für Kinder gibt. Das Essen war gut, allerdings waren wir meistens nur frühstücken und nur einmal im Hotel Abendessen. Es gibt auch 2 weitere Restaurants, neben dem Hauptrestaurant, in denen muss man allerdings reservieren.
Solltet ihr auf der Suche nach einem anderen Hotel sein, mir hat die Gegend im Norden rund um Acharavi am besten gefallen.
The best spots & beaches
Rovinia Beach & View of Liapedes Beach
These two beaches are located west of the island, near the town Paleokastritsa. We drove there around 45 minutes by car from our hotel. It’s already a little adventure to reach the parking lot, but it is so worth it. If you are walking from the parking to Rovinia Beach, you first pass this view point of Liapedes Beach, and that was the moment I fell in love with the island. The view is absolutely breathtaking!
Diese beiden wunderschönen Strände liegen im Westen der Insel, nahe der Stadt Paleokastritsa. Wir sind von unserem Hotel in etwa 45 Minuten mit dem Auto gefahren. Die Straße zum Parkplatz war an sich schon ein kleines Abenteuer, hat sich aber definitiv gelohnt. Wenn ihr vom Parkplatz aus Richtung Rovinia Beach spaziert, kommt ihr zuerst an diesem Aussichtspunkt auf den benachbarten Strand vorbei, und das war wirklich der Punkt, ab dem ich mich in diese Insel verliebt habe. Der Blick ist einfach atemberaubend.
If you continue walking you will reach Rovinia Beach. The beach is super beautiful, the water crystal clear, turquoise and gently sloping. Plus we were almost the only ones there in June. By the way, the price for the guarded parking space costs 3€ for the whole day.
Wenn ihr dann weitergeht, kommt ihr zum Rovinia Beach. Der Strand ist wirklich super schön. Das Wasser dort ist glasklar, flach abfallend und wunderschön türkis. Als wir im Juni dort waren, waren wir auch fast alleine dort. Der bewachte Parkplatz kostet übrigens 3€ für den ganzen Tag.
Akron Beach Bar
Not far from the two beaches, in the village of Paleokastritsa, you will find this restaurant including beach club. The food there was very good and the view was fantastic. You can also rent sunbeds on the beach or by the pool for the day.
Nicht weit weg von den beiden Stränden, im Ort Paleokastritsa, liegt dieses Restaurant inklusive Beach Club. Das Essen dort war sehr gut und der Ausblick dabei traumhaft. Man kann sich auch Liegen am Strand oder beim Pool für den Tag mieten.
Porto Timoni
Probably the most famous beach of Corfu is located in the northwest of the island, near the town of Agios Georgios. There are several paid parking lots and, if you’re lucky, you can even park on the street for free. We chose the parking by ‘Porto Timoni restaurant’ and then hiked down to the beach. But be careful!! Make sure to wear good shoes (and not sandals like we did), because the path is very stony and steep downhill and you have to walk around 30 minutes to the viewpoint and another 15 minutes to the beach. On the left beach there are some taxi boats that stop regularly and take passengers to Agiou Georgiou Pagon beach. We shared one boat with other visitors for the return trip and they drove us back to the parking lot (extra charge).
Der wohl bekannteste Strand von Korfu liegt im Nordwesten der Insel, nahe der Stadt Agios Georgios. Es gibt mehrere kostenpflichtige Parkplätze und man kann, wenn man Glück hat, sogar kostenlos auf der Straße parken. Wir haben uns für den Parkplatz beim Porto Timoni Restaurant entschieden und sind dann zum Strand hinunter gewandert. Aber Achtung!! Ein festes Schuhwerk solltet ihr dabei tragen, da der Weg teilweise sehr steinig und steil bergab geht und man gute 30 Minuten zum Aussichtspunkt und weitere 15 Minuten zum Strand gehen muss. Am linken Strand gibt es einige Taxiboote, die regelmäßig halten und Passagiere zum Agiou Georgiou Pagon Strand bringt. Wir haben uns für die Rückfahrt ein Taxiboot mit anderen Besuchern geteilt und sie haben uns dann auch noch zum Parkplatz zurück gefahren (Aufpreis).
Old Town of Corfu
The old town has so much to offer! There are two Venetian fortresses and it reminded me a bit of Italy, with many winding medieval alleys, countless small stores, boutiques and nice restaurants. Unfortunately, we didn’t have much time for real sightseeing and so we just walked around for a few hours.
Die Altstadt von Korfu hat sehr viel zu bieten. Hier gibt es zwei venezianische Festungen und generell erinnert sie ein bisschen an Italien, mit vielen verwinkelten, mittelalterlichen Gassen, unzähligen kleinen Shops und Boutiquen sowie netten Restaurants. Wir hatten leider nicht so viel Zeit für richtiges Sightseeing und sind daher nur ein paar Stunden herumspaziert.
Acharavi
Another reason why I love this island are the sunsets. We enjoyed the most beautiful sunsets every day during these 4 days. All of them were in the north of the island, especially in the village of Acharavi. I literally had tears in my eyes while watching. For me, there is almost nothing more beautiful than sunsets by the sea. By the way, with good visibility you can even see the Albanian mainland from there.
Ein weiterer Grund warum ich mich so in diese Insel verliebt habe, waren die Sonnenuntergänge. Wir haben in diesen 4 Tagen wirklich jeden Tag die schönsten Sonnenuntergänge gesehen. Alle davon waren im Norden der Insel, besonders im Ort Acharavi. Bei dem Anblick hatte ich wirklich Tränen in den Augen. Für mich gibt es fast nichts schöneres als Sonnenuntergänge am Meer. Bei guter Sicht sieht man von dort übrigens das albanische Festland.

This beach club is located in the village Dassia, east of the island. Since the airport is not far away, we decided to spend our last day here before our flight back home. The price for the sunbeds is around 10€ for the whole day. There is also a pool with a pool bar and a DJ.
Dieser Beach Club liegt im Ferienort Dassia im Osten der Insel. Da der Flughafen nicht weit davon entfernt ist, haben wir uns am letzten Tag vor unserem Abflug entschieden, den Tag hier zu verbringen. Die Liegen kosten etwa 10€ für den ganzen Tag. Einen Pool inklusive Pool Bar und DJ gibt es auch.
Boat Tour to Paxos & the Blue Caves of Antipaxos
I can highly recommend a boat trip to the islands of Paxos & Antipaxos! This day was even my highlight of the whole trip. We left the port of Corfu town at 09:00 am and drove around 3 hours to the first stop, Lakka on the island of Paxos. We had 3 hours there to see the city, relax on one of the many beautiful beaches or have lunch. We decided to have lunch at the restaurant ‘Akis’ at first and then went to the beach for a quick swim.
Eine Bootstour zu diesen beiden Inseln kann ich euch wirklich nur ans Herz legen! Das war sogar mein Highlight des ganzen Trips. Wir sind um 09:00 Uhr vom Hafen von Korfu Stadt weggefahren und waren dann mal knappe 3 Stunden unterwegs zum ersten Halt, Lakka auf der Insel Paxos. Dort hat man dann knappe 3 Stunden Zeit um sich die Stadt anzusehen, an einem der vielen schönen Strände zu entspannen oder Mittag zu essen. Wir waren zuerst im Restaurant Akis essen und haben uns dann noch kurz an den Strand daneben gelegt.
After that we drove to the Blue Cavos of Antipaxos. The sea is incredibly turquoise there. In total, we visited two caves and even went completely inside, which was a really great experience.
Danach geht es mit dem Boot weiter zu den blauen Grotten von Antipaxos. Das Meer ist dort unglaublich schön türkis. Insgesamt besucht man zwei Höhlen und fährt auch fast ganz hinein, eine wirklich tolle Erfahrung.
After an hour’s drive you will stop at a beautiful bay on Antipaxos. You can go for a swim or have lunch on board. Then we went back to Corfu and at 07:00 pm we were back at the port. But the 3 hours back were absolutely entertaining, because we had such a great atmosphere on board. We were two boats that belonged together and a DJ on board created the right mood. A really great experience that still gives me so much feelings of happiness.
Nach einer Stunde Fahrzeit hält man dann bei einer wunderschönen Bucht auf Antipaxos. Vom Boot aus kann man hier dann schwimmen gehen oder an Bord das Mittagessen in Anspruch nehmen. Nach einer Stunde geht es aber auch schon wieder zurück nach Korfu und um 19:00 Uhr ist man wieder am Hafen. Die 3 Stunden Rückweg sind aber absolut kurzweilig, denn an Bord herrscht eine wahnsinnig tolle Stimmung. Wir waren zwei Ausflugsschiffe, die zusammen gehörten und an Bord war ein DJ der für beide Boote für Stimmung sorgte. Ein richtig tolles Erlebnis, das mir immer noch Glücksgefühle beschert.
Costs
We paid 52€ per person for the round trip flight from Vienna to Corfu with Wizzair. The price for the hotel was 400€ for a double room with all-inclusive, makes it 200€ per person for 3 nights. For the rental car we paid 250€ for 4 days.
So that’s a total of 377€ per person.
Additional expenses: For the boat tour to Paxos & Antipaxos we paid 41€ per person. We were once refueling for 50€.
Wir haben für den Hin- & Rückflug von Wien nach Korfu mit Wizzair 52€ pro Person bezahlt. Für das Hotel haben wir 400€ für ein Doppelzimmer mit All-Inclusive bezahlt, also 200€ pro Person für 3 Nächte. Für den Mietwagen haben wir 250€ bezahlt für 4 Tage.
Das sind also insgesamt 377€ pro Person.
Zusätzliche Ausgaben: Für die Bootstour nach Paxos & Antipaxos haben wir 41€ pro Person gezahlt. Wir waren einmal Tanken für 50€.
